Starting Indian Comedy

In 2010 Sanjay Manaktala moved to Bangalore as an Analytics manager for a large US consulting company.

As a typical middle-class Indian-American kid who realized you can do anything you want in life after engineering...he spent years producing comedy shows and live events which eventually turned into the modern day Indian comedy scene, which is on pace to become a billion dollar global industry.

At that time, along with Comedian Praveen Kumar and Sundeep Rao they started creating comedy clubs in the city when there was none. They also worked with Comedy Store London in Mumbai (later the Canvas Laugh Club), which was the reason many of the Indian comics you see today exist.

Pretty soon other comedy hopefuls started to take notice, places like the Habitat Mumbai, Underground Comedy Club Bangalore, and others started to follow.

In 2020 Sanjay moved back to the USA right before the world changed, and currently resides in the USA with his wife and daughter.

He still freelances and performs/writes for club shows, bar shows, corporate events and media opportunities while maintaining a family and professional life in Memphis, TN.
